The memorial in Central Park was designed by Bruce Kelly, chief landscape architect for the Central Park Conservancy. Strawberry Fields was unveiled on October 9, 1985, what would have been Lennon's 45th birthday, by his widow Yoko Ono, where Lennon spent the latter part of his life and where he was assassinated. The memorial is a triangular plot of land with a circular mosaic of stones in the center, a replica of a mosaic from Pompeii, donated by the city of Naples. At the center of the mosaic is a single word, the title of Lennon's famous song: "Imagine."
